~ WW1 Naval Themed Silk Work – Unframed ~
A beautiful British Naval themed First World War era silk-work.
The piece features a life ring over an anchor with crown above to the centre with flags of the nations to either side. The legend ‘United We Stand’ is embroidered to the top edge and to the bottom edge is a gold threaded frame.
The images are woven onto a bright pink silk ground.
There is a print of a WW1 sea battle between two ships currently set in the gold thread frame.
The life ring to the centre of the piece is also fashioned as a frame in which is currently a photograph of a young sailor and his family (a postcard rather than an original photograph).
Both the print and postcard are removable, so preferred images may be put in their place.
The silk is mounted in a simple paper frame.
~ Dimensions ~
The silk work itself measures 49cm (19 ¼ inches) by 51cm (20 inches).
Including paper frame it measures 63.5cm (25 inches) by 78cm (30 ¾ inches).
~ Condition ~
The silk has been stored, folded up and has some wear along the folds (see images).
There is a tear along the bottom edge of the piece and a lesser tear to the top.
The piece is in need of being framed so the damage to the edges could quite easily be disguised with a mount.
Aside from the damage mentioned, the silk is overall in a rather nice condition.
