~ Edwardian Cheshire Regiment Spiked Black Cloth Helmet ~
The helmet is complete with gilt metal cross piece, spike and rose bosses supporting a metal unbacked chin chain. To the front, a gilt metal helmet plate, to the centre the regimental badge. Below this is a silver scroll which is inscribed “The Cheshire Regiment”.
The inner lining consists of brown silk, a black pinstriped cloth sweatband and green cloth under the visors.
The Cheshire Regiment was an infantry regiment of the British Army from 1689 to 2007.
~ Dimensions ~
The helmet is 8 inches (20 cm) tall (without the spike) and 11 inches (28 cm) tall (with the spike). It has a depth of 10.5 inches (26.6 cm), a width of 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) & weighs 480 g.
~ Condition ~
The cloth is clean & in good order, with some moth bites, most notiable around the left rosette. The inner lining has a small tear to the sweatband, but aside from colour/age wear remains in good order. The brass fittings have some minor wear but remain in a mostly good condition with the original gilding.
