~ Churchman’s Cigarettes “The Story of Navigation” 50 Cigarette Cards ~
A full set of 50 original Churchman’s Cigarettes “The Story of Navigation” cigarette cards, with one error card. Issued July 1937, the set is typical of Churchman’s issues; well made cards containing a wealth of technical & historical detail. The cards all revolve around ships, and include ships such as “SS Great Britain”, “QSTS Queen Mary” & “Nelson’s Victory”, with other unnamed ships such as “A Naval Cutter” & “A Naval Schooner”.
The error card (No18, “Harry Grace a Dieu”) portrays a printers’ error in that the little flags atop the masts were not coloured red. This omission was later corrected but not before some cards containing this error had been dispatched into general circulation. The error printing and the correct printing can be found to the center, to the right.
