~ Framed Pub Tobacco Advertising Sign Boomer Hand Cut Virginia ~
The sign depicts a selection of British Royal Navy sailors preparing to fire a large deck mounted cannon at a warship that can be spotted in the distance. The cannon is late Victorian, the warship of perhaps WW1/WW2 vintage so we will say the sign is from around the 1930’s.
The sign reads “BOOMER, Hand Cut, Virginia, 1lb Box” which is reverse printed on the glass in red and black lettering over a white, brown, green and gilt background.
No parts are silvered so has a non-reflective surface, this is why we have avoided the term ‘mirror’.
It is in a period oak frame, behind the glass is a backing hardboard of some age.
~ Dimensions ~
The frame has a width of 34.6 inches (87.9 cm), a height of 25 inches (63.5 cm) and a depth of 0.8 inches (2.3 cm). The mirror has a width of 30.5 inches (77.4 cm) & a height of 21 inches (53.3 cm). It weighs 5.65 kg.
~ Condition ~
The mirror is in excellent order with minimal degradation. The frame has obviously been hung for decades in a busy environment with quite a lot of wear but it is still structurally sound.
