~ Gents Movado-Ralco Wristwatch c1940’s ~
A fine 1940’s gentleman’s wristwatch by the Swiss watchmaker Movado under their second brand name of Ralco.
The Ralco name comes from the initials of three of the Ditesheim family (owners of Movado), Roger, Armand and Lucien.
It has been suggested that this watch may have been used by the US military but we cannot currently confirm this for definite.
The case is of a base metal with a silver (chromed?) coating, while the case-back is of stainless steel.
The watch has a cream coloured dial with Arabic numerals and an outer mins/seconds ring.
It has luminous coated hour and minute hands and also a red sweeping seconds hand.
The dial reads ‘Ralco’ along with ‘Waterproof, Shock Protected, Anti-Magnetic, Swiss’.
The inside of the case-back has a serial no. of ‘335599’.
The movement reads ’Ralco, Swiss Made, 15 Jewels’.
The watch comes upon a modern brown leather strap.
~ Dimensions ~
The dial has a diameter of 3cm.
The watch and strap measure 24cm (9 ½ inches).
It weighs 24.9g.
~ Condition ~
One of the hands is slightly discoloured and there is a tiny scratch to the crystal. Other wise the dial is clean and in good order.
The chrome/silver finish is a little worn to the edges and the watch could do with a good clean but in general it is in a good condition with no damage.
The watch is in good working order.
