Background:
The Heckler & Koch MP5 (Maschinenpistole 5, meaning “Submachine Gun 5”) is a submachine gun developed in the 1960s by the German firearms manufacturer Heckler & Koch. It features a modular design similar to the Heckler & Koch G3 and has spawned over 100 variants and clones. The MP5 is among the most widely used submachine guns globally, adopted by more than 40 countries and utilized by numerous military units, police forces, intelligence agencies, security organizations, paramilitary groups, and non-state actors. One notable variant is the MP5N, the Naval version introduced in 1986 to fulfill a request by the United States Navy for a submachine gun suitable for use on ships and in low-light conditions. The MP5N is essentially an MP5A3 with a retractable stock, a “Navy 2-Round Burst” trigger group, tritium-illuminated sights, and a custom “3-Lug” muzzle for attaching a stainless steel suppressor made by Knight’s Armament Company (KAC).
