*German, WW2, 1940, Original M35 Heer Helmet SE62, with Replacement Liner*
The German helmet from World War II is an iconic symbol of German soldiers during that era. Its unique design signifies both the fear associated with German forces and their technological advancement. Production of these helmets occurred from 1935 to 1945, totaling around 25 million units from five different manufacturers. The Wehrmacht (‘defence force’) were the unified armed forces of Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1945, consisting of the Heer (army), the Kriegsmarine (navy) and the Luftwaffe (air force).
Model 35 (M35) was manufactured from 1935 to 1940. This helmet is stamped SE62 and 3437. SE indicates the manufacturer “Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke A.G.” 62 is the Shell Size 62 and Headsize 55 (marked on the liner) and it is batch number 3437.
Records for M35 SE62 3437 state – “SD Heer ZSH RTGG (post 21 Mar 1940 completion)”. SD – single decal. ZSH -Zinc plated steel liner band with sheepskin media. RTGG – Rough texture green grey.
This dark green M35 helmet has no decal but on 28 August 1943, the army insignia were removed from the helmet for the duration of the war. The helmet’s design includes vents on both sides, three split rivets securing the liner, and a visor to protect against shrapnel, debris, sunlight, and rain. The liner is a replacement liner size 55 with a stores number.
