*German, WW2, NSDAP Party Membership Badge Pin, RZM & Maker Marked either M1/42 or M1/44*
Approx Measurements: 2.4cm diameter
Maker Mark is faint but we believe it is either M1/42 – Kerbach & Israel, Dresdenor; or M1/44 – M1/44 – C Dinsel, Berlin- Waidmannsllust. Both of which are rare makers to find.
This standard-issue NSDAP membership badge was awarded upon official acceptance into the party. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been silver washed and contains red, white and black enamel paint work. The round shaped obverse depicts a black mobile swastika on a white backing, encircled by: “NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE – D.A.P.” on a red pebbled backing. The reverse features a functional “safety pin” attachment, allowing it to be worn on any clothing.
The NSDAP (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) was originally established in Munich on January 5, 1919, as the DAP (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, or German Workers’ Party). When Adolf Hitler joined the DAP in late 1919, he transformed it from a debating society into a political organization. Appointed as the first chairman on July 29, 1921, Hitler restructured the party with a paramilitary hierarchy. By late 1934, items produced for the NSDAP, including membership badges, fell under the quality control of the RZM (Reichszeugmeisterei, or National Equipment Quartermaster), and were marked accordingly with the RZM logo.
