*German, WW2, Officer’s High Black Leather Jack Boots with Mixed Pull Tabs, c.1939–1945*
A very good pair of original German World War II officer’s high black leather riding boots (jack boots), worn by officers of the Heer, Luftwaffe, and Waffen-SS.
Standing approx. 48 cm tall, with a sole length of about 29.5 cm (approx. UK size 10, EU 44), these robust blackened leather boots feature full-length shafts and classic nailed leather soles with horseshoe-style iron heel plates — typical of German mounted and officer footwear.
A particularly interesting detail is the presence of mixed pull tabs inside each boot: each has a leather pull tab on the outside leg side, and a striped woven fabric pull tab on the inside leg side. The fabric tabs are made from repurposed ribbon or uniform material, showing distinct green, red, and black/grey stripes. These additions suggest personalization by the original wearer, possibly as a practical field modification to assist when pulling the boots on.
Officer boots were commonly private purchase items and often lacked factory markings, as seen here. The combination of leather and fabric pull tabs adds unique character and points to possible wartime field use or personalized tailoring.
*Condition*
These boots remain structurally solid and displayable. The exterior leather shows typical service creasing, scuffs, and some surface abrasions. There is a minor stitching pull to the rear seam of the left boot at the top edge, but it does not significantly affect stability. The soles and heels exhibit heavy field wear. The forefoot hobnails are largely worn away, leaving mainly residual nail impressions and partial heads. The iron horseshoe-style heel plates remain intact but show rust and heavy use. Interior leather is aged with cracking; the pull tabs (leather and fabric) are secure but worn and frayed, especially on the fabric tabs. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
