~ Hand Carved South African Wooden Bowl by Butch Smuts c2001 ~
A large hand carved wooden bowl made by Butch Smuts a famous South African wood carver with an excellent reputation.
The bowl was made in 2001 of Harde Koo Leadwood Combretum Imberre and embossed with silver inlay.
Combretum imberbe, a hardy, slow growing, bulky, deciduous tree which can grow to tremendous old age. The silvery-green leaves are unusually small for a Combretum.
The wood of this tree is extremely heavy and makes wonderful coals but should never be collected from the wild as it is an important part of the ecology of the bushveld and it is now illegal to collect it.
