*Italian, Dated 1959, Bren MKII 7.62 cal Light Machine Gun with Bipod, Made by Breda Meccanica Bresciana (BMB), complete with spare barrel, cleaning rod and original box, Deactivated*
This Bren MK2 Light Machine Gun, manufactured by Breda Meccanica Bresciana (BMB) in 1959, was produced for the Corpo delle Guardie di Pubblica Sicurezza, Italy’s primary state police force responsible for maintaining public order. Established on July 18, 1852, in the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont, the force was militarized and given additional duties during the Fascist era. In 1981, its role and name were reformed to “Polizia di Stato.” Chambered in .30-06 (equivalent to 7.62mm NATO but named differently in Italy due to the metric system), this Italian-made Bren comes complete with its original equipment, including its original transit case marked for the CDG PS with matching serial number, a spare matching numbered barrel, a cleaning rod, and a magazine case.
Manufactured by BMB as part of Italy’s post-World War II rearmament, this version of the Bren gun was adapted for the standard NATO 7.62mm cartridge. The Bren MK2 retains the distinctive top-mounted magazine, quick-change barrel, and bipod of the original design, allowing for stable, sustained fire and effective use in squad support roles.

Background:
Originally developed in Britain in the 1930s, the Bren gun was celebrated for its reliability, accuracy, and rugged construction. The MK2 variant, a simplified wartime version, was widely used during World War II and later modified for NATO use in the 1950s. The Bren’s design was based on the 7.92mm ZB-26 light machine gun from Czechoslovakia but was adapted to fire the British .303 rimmed cartridge, necessitating a curved magazine. The name “Bren” comes from a combination of “Brno” (the city where the original gun was designed) and “Enfield” (the British manufacturer).
While the Bren is best known as the primary infantry light machine gun for British and Commonwealth forces during World War II, it continued to see extensive use in subsequent conflicts, including the Korean War and the 1982 Falklands War. The Bren Mk1’s success led to the development of later variants, and it remained in service with various armed forces worldwide for many years, valued for its reliability, accuracy, and versatility in both offensive and defensive roles.
