~ Ladies Gold Filled Wittnauer Wristwatch c1940’s ~
A lovely vintage ladies gold filled, manual wind wristwatch by the Swiss watch company Wittnauer.
The company, founded in 1885 was taken over by Longines in 1950, so we can presume the watch pre-dates this.
The watch has a stylish gold filled rectangular case with a thick curved glass crystal.
It has a square silvered dial with an enamel centre, applied gold Arabic numerals and two gold tone hands There is a square
subsidiary seconds dial at the six o’clock position..
The dial is named ‘Wittnauer’ and reads ‘Swiss’.
The stainless steel pop-off case-back is also named ‘Wittnauer’.
The watch has a 15 jewel manual wind ’11S’ movement named ‘Wittnauer Watch Co Inc’.
The watch comes on a gold filled/plated and stainless steel stretch bracelet.
~ Dimensions ~
The dial measures 19mm x 19mm.
The watch measures 25mm across the bezel (26mm including crown).
The bracelet has an inner circumference of 16.5cm (6 ½ inches).
The watch weighs 37.1g.
~ Condition ~
The dial has some speckling but no apparent damage.
The crystal is slightly protruding at one edge. It has some small marks barely seen to the naked lie; nothing significant.
The case is in decent order. It has light wear commensurate with age with a little wear to the tips of the lugs but presents well
nonetheless.
The bracelet has a little wea but no damages and also presents well.
The watch is in good working order.
