The Captain’s rank is denoted by three pips on the shoulders. This long double-breasted coat is crafted from a khaki drab wool mixture that has been milled and waterproofed. The coat can be worn open at the neck or buttoned across in a ‘lancer’ style for added protection against the elements. The chin guard is still present inside. Eight brass regimental buttons with the King’s Crown of the Royal Medical Corps adorn the front of the coat. A large dart is incorporated into the front lancer-style closure to ensure a better fit. The neck of the greatcoat fastens with a pair of brass hooks and eyes.
The rear of the coat features three seams and a central vent. The length of the greatcoat varies based on the officer’s height, typically hanging approximately 14 inches from the ground. Flapped pockets with 3 1/2-inch deep flaps are positioned on the slant, with an unopened sword slit 1 1/2 inches above the left pocket. The coat’s cuffs indicate it follows the old pattern, featuring a 6-inch deep gauntlet cuff (a feature omitted in the new pattern to save fabric). The coat is lined only in the shoulders, with the new pattern extending the lining down to the waist.
