~ Pair Of London 1909 Silver Rimmed Ceramic Match Strikers ~
The pair are of a textured cream ceramic sphere, with a flat underside. Matches were placed in the central silver rimmed receptacle and where struck on the textured exterior.
The silver rims are hallmarked for Sterling silver, London and 1909.
The makers mark is CS & FS for Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd. They traded from Bartlett’s Passage, Holborn Circus, London; subsequently Fetter Lane, London EC4.
Rare to find a matched pair.

Both items are in great condition, free from chips and cracks. The silver hallmarks are worn from prior polishing.

The strikers are 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The pair weighs 792 g.
