~ RN Naval General Service Medal With Near East Clasp & Defence Medal ~
This is a set of medals once belonging to a naval officer active from 1940 to 1956 (from WW2 to the Suez Crisis).
They include:
1. A silver Naval General Service Medal (Elizabeth II issue), with ribbon, mounting bar and “NEAR EAST” clasp. The crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse while the reverse shows a mounted figure of Britannia in a chariot pulled by two sea-horses, her left hand resting on a union shield. On the rim, the engraving reveals that it was awarded to “D/JX 905723 J H HIBBERT AB RN”.
2. A cupro-nickel 1939-45 Defence medal, with ribbon. The obverse shows the head of King George VI, facing left, while the reverse shows the Royal Crown resting on an oak sapling, flanked by a lion and a lioness above stylised waves.
~ Dimensions ~
Both medals are 1.4 inches in diameter and hang 3.5 inches from the mounting crease.
Together they weigh 80 g.
~ Condition ~
Both medals are in good condition, showing minimal wear.
