~ Royal Doulton Charles Noke Large Shakespeare Beer Jug c1936 ~
A large decorative ‘beer jug’ by Charles Noke for Royal Doulton titled ‘The Shakespeare Jug’ produced circa 1936.
This is a limited edition being no. 52 of a run of 1000.
The large pottery jug is moulded in low relief with characters from Shakespears plays around the circumference with books along
the lower edge.
The handled is moulded with decoration of swords, and mask with foliage. The foliage continued around the upper edge of the jug.
The face of Shakespeare can be seen below the spout.
The jug bears the legend ‘Dear Son Of Memory, Great Heir Of Fame’ around its circumference.
The underside of the jug is marked with the title of the jug, the edition no., an image of a scroll with prose and an image of the bard
himself.
It is also marked with the Royal Doulton stamp.
~ Dimensions ~
The jug has a diameter of 17cm (6 ¾ inches) while measuring 29cm (11 ½ inches) from the handle to the tip of the spout.
It has a height of 26.5cm (10 ½ inches) and weighs 2.22 Kg.
~ Condition ~
There is crazing of the glaze throughout but no damages and presents very well.
