~ Sierra Leone Gallantry Medal – Bai Bureh Star ~
A Sierra Leone gallantry medal, also known as the Bai Bureh Star.
This unusual medal is oval gilt metal.
In the centre is the Sierra Leone coat of arms – two lions holding the shield, which depicts a lion beneath a zigzag border, representing the Lion Mountains, after which the country was named.
It also shows three torches which are meant to symbolize peace and dignity & underneath a banner that has the motto “UNITY, FREEDOM, JUSTICE”.)
Underneath are two crossed scimitar swords.
The lower edge is a banner reads “For Gallantry”.
The ribbon is green with white edge stripes and blue edges with a pin clasp on the reverse.

Sierra Leone, officially the Republic of Sierra Leone, is a country in West Africa that is bordered by Guinea to the northeast, Liberia to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southwest.
The medal was awarded for military gallantry of the highest degree. It was named after a famous local fighter.
