Description

Here we have a sword with incredible history, this sword belonged to Air Commadore John Adrian Chamier, CB, CMG, DSO and OBE. He had a long and incredible military career before an illustrious career as the Director of the Vickers Aviation Ltd as well as being a BBC correspondent.

Air Commodore Chamier was an officer of the Indian infantry and came to Britain and was an officer and Pilot in the RFC in WW1 and ended his career as a combat pilot in 1929. He served in WW2 and most importantly he was the founder of the Air Training Corps, fondly called the Father of the ATC.

This sword was purchased on his appointment to the Indian Army and that explains the swords ERI cipher which stands for Edward Rex Imperator to show the swords association with the Empires army.

The sword has its Indian service leather scabbard and its original sword knot.

The sword comes with a copy of the Wilkinson Ledger that matches the serial number, the sword is also engraved with Chamier’s initials.

~ Dimensions ~

The sword is 39 inches (99 cm) long.

The blade is 33 inches (84 cm) long.

The sword weighs 1.02Kg.

~ Condition ~

The sword is in good condition for its age and service, there is some age to the scabbard and the plating of the guard.

ref. GS833CED6 / TFWACOOZPQ
