~ The Western Front Drawings by Muirhead Bone In Two Volumes 1917 ~
A two volume collection of the drawings by Muirhead Bone published by Authority of the War Office in 1917. With text by C.E. Montague and an introduced by Gen. Sir Douglas Haig.
Sir Muirhead Bone (1876-1953) was a Scottish etcher and watercolourist who became known for his depiction of industrial and architectural subjects and his work as a war artist in both the First and Second World Wars.
Bone was an active member of both the British War Memorials Committee in the First World War and the War Artists’ Advisory Committee in the Second World War. He promoted the work of many young artists and served as a Trustee of the Tate Gallery, the National Gallery, and the Imperial War Museum.
Sir Muirhead Bone created much of his finest work as Official Artist on the Western Front in WWI. The culmination of this period is his striking series of drawings (over 200 in all) published as ‘The Western Front’ (1916-17).
The drawings were originally issued in ten monthly parts which were later combined and sold as two bound volumes.
Every other page in these two volumes contains a Muirhead drawing, captioned on the facing page with text by C.E. Montague.
The books are hard bound with cream cloth covers.

The books measure 24cm (9 ½ inches) by 30.5cm (12 inches).
