~ Victorian 1845 Pattern Royal Marines Light Infantry NCO’s Sword & Scabbard ~
A very rare example as it is for a non-commissioned officers rather than a commissioned one. They were usually given upon promotion to a senior rank. The slightly curved blade has a two thirds length single fuller.
~ Condition ~
The etchings on the blade are very worn towards the guard end, this includes the ricasso, so we are unsure of the manufacturer (SIB…). The central portion is clear. The blade has darkened in places, the edge is free from nicks.
The grip is worn but the wiring remains decent as is the rest of the guard,
The scabbard is in fair order with several dings and creases towards the tip. The sword fits sweetly inside.
~ Dimensions ~
The sword is 102.5 cm (40.5 inches) in length with a 88 cm (34.5 inches) blade.
The set weighs 1.2 Kg.
