~ Victorian Cobalt Blue Nailsea Glass Rolling Pin c.1860 ~
This is a beautiful hand blown blue Nalsea glass rolling pin of typical ovoid form with knopped ends and painted flowers.
Decorated glass rolling pins were generally given as gifts by sailors to their wives and girlfriends. They were usually colourfully decorated with a sailing ship and words of endearment or a date. One end of the pin always has a small hole in it, the reason for this was to fill the pin with warm water to assist in the rolling of pastry. Most of these rolling pins were made in Nailsea, Bristol.
~ Dimensions ~
The rolling pin measures 13.75 inches (35cm) long and is approximately 2.5 inches (6.5cm) in diameter. The rolling pin weighs 280g.
~ Condition ~
The rolling pin is in good antique condition with a chip to one end (near the hole). The painted flowers are worn.
