~ Victorian Composite Suit Of Armour With A 16th Century Front Armour Plate ~
The suit is complete with all its components.
The helmet is made of four main elements with a stepped visor.
The one piece skull bears half of the neck plate whilst the first step of the visor bears the other.
The other pieces of the helmet are the prow shaped upper and lower beavers. Most edges are turned and roped.
The full arm defence, each with 3 plate pauldron, upper cannon with turning joint, large couter with recessed edges, 2 piece lower cannon and fingered gauntlets.
The cuirass comprising a 16th century breast plate with medial ridge – incised with lines at neck and arms, plain turns, single plate skirt.
The back plate is of a similar design but is Victorian.
The single plate culet has simulated lames and recessed edge and plain turn.
The legs harness have 4 sabotons.
As seen in the pictures some of the leather belts are attached to the armour by flower shaped brass rivets.
The piece is mounted on a mannequin on a raised wooden base.
As the item is so large we will discuss delivery on a personnel basis.
~ Dimensions ~
The armour has a height of 59 inches (149.86 cm) excluding the base and the helmet.
The helmet height is 13 inches (33 cm).
The base measures 19.5 inches (49.5cm) by 19.5 inches (49.5cm) and has a height of 7 inches (17.78 cm).
The helmet weighs 2.6 Kg and the suit and base 32 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The suit has some minor repairs and some areas were polished.
A small number of rivets were replaced with newer ones and the main left and right rivets of the helmet (the ones that keep the steps in place) were replaced by modern screws.
The leather belts have aged but remained free of serious damage.
There is some amount of age pitting and darkening, especially on the older front plate.
The overall condition of the suit is excellent.
