Victorian Griffiths Needle Fire Rifle In Its Original Case

Description

This exquisite rook rifle comes in its original brown leather case, please note the ammunition round is not included and has been disposed of.

When carried in the case the rifle is disassembled in two parts.

The quality of the workmanship on this rifle is excellent. Its metal components are engraved with foliage and the walnut stock is chequered and beautifully varnished.

Above the trigger the rifle is stamped with the manufacturer’s name ‘Griffiths & Worsley’.

The top of the hexagonal barrel is also stamped ‘Griffiths & Worsley Manchester’.

The rifle is fitted with both a frontal and rear sights. Both sights are adjustable. The rear one is of an hinged adjustable pattern.

The loading lever is stamped ’48 R&N Patent’.

The rifle is stamped underneath with a series of Victorian proof marks and serial number ‘297 S’. The same number is stamped on the mechanism frame.

The barrel is rifled.

The leather case is decorated with a brass badge on the lid and a locking mechanism.

The case is fitted with four external leather straps, one on each corner, for it to be carried on a horse saddle.

The rifle is .40 Cal.

~ Dimensions ~

The barrel length is 24.5 inches (62.3 cm) and the overall length of the rifle is 40.5 (102.9 cm).

The case length is 29.3 inches (74.5 cm), its width is 7.50 inches (19 cm) and its depth is 3.2 inches (8 cm).

The set weighs 4.9 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The rifle is excellent with minimum signs of use.

The woodwork is excellent too with minimum usage.

The mechanism works as intended.
