~ Victorian The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) Music Drape Banner ~
The dark blue velvet drape bears the regimental badge to the centre, constructed of gold bullion wire, fabric and stitching.
Underneath the badge is a scroll that reads “The Buffs”. Above is the Queens (Victoria’s) royal crown and a scroll that reads “1741”. The reverse is stamped by the makers “Besson London”, a well known company for their brass musical instruments, founded in 1837.
At the top a wooden pole has been stitched into the lining, two metal clips towards each edge, for suspension.

The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), formerly the 3rd Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment of the British Armyuntil 1961. It had a history dating back to 1572 and was one of the oldest regiments in the British Army being third in order of precedence (ranked as the 3rd Regiment of the line). It provided distinguished service over a period of almost four hundred years accumulating one hundred and sixteen battle honours.

The pole has a width of 22.5 inches (57.2 cm) & a height of 18 inches (45.7 cm).
~ Condition ~
The piece is in excellent condition with some fading, most noticeable on the ‘reds’.
