This was the standard-issue German military identification tag for a ‘Machine Gunner’. The Erkennungsmarke was instituted and first issued in August of 1939 to all members of the German Wehrmacht. The tag itself consisted of thin aluminium, zinc, steel, or tin oval disc that was worn around the neck on a chain, string, or lace. The tag was designed to be broken into two pieces when the soldier wearing it was killed.
*Condition*
The tag is in good condition with no dents or bending to the metal. Some light pitting throughout but the stamp is visible. Please refer to the images as a part of our condition report.
