Description

*WW1, Webley MKVI Revolver, .455 Cal. Dated 1916*

Serial number 209051 marked on the chamber and twice underneath the barrel lug. 6″ barrel length. Stamped on the frame “Webley MKVI Patents 1915”. The top strap carries the number 16 for the year of manufacture, the crown cypher, GR for Georgius Rex, and the war arrow. There are numerous war arrows and crown proof marks on the gun.

The Webley & Scott Revolver is an iconic firearm that emerged in the late 19th century and became a symbol of British military and police forces for over a century. The Webley is a top-break revolver and breaking the revolver operates the extractor, which removes cartridges from the cylinder. The Webley Mk I service revolver was adopted in 1887 and the MK IV rose to prominence during the Boer War of 1899–1902. The MK VI was introduced in 1915-23, during wartime, and is the best-known model. Webley MKVIs stayed the official British military sidearm from 1916 until 1928 when the Enfield MKII .380 was adopted. However, when the British declared war on Germany in 1939, they were woefully short of the Enfields so thousands of MKVIs were kept in service.

~ Condition ~
This Webley MK VI is in excellent condition with light surface marks. The gun is deactivated but all moving parts work as they should. Dry fires. Please see pictures for more detail.
