~ WW1 Royal Naval Air Service Officers Dress Cap #2 ~
A First World War Royal Naval Air Service Officers peaked dress cap.
The Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) was the air arm of the Royal Navy, which only existed formally from 1st July 1914 to 1st April 1918, It
was then merged with the British Army’s Royal Flying Corps to form the Royal Air Force.
These caps are quite rare due to the fact that the RNAS was reasonably short lived, and this particular cap is a lovely example.
The cap has a dark blue cloth body with small black leather peak. It has plain black buttons on a narrow leather chin strap and is
complete with gilt Royal Naval Air Service Officers badge on a textile band which runs round the circumference of the cap.
The cap has a red leather interior with a cream leather sweatband.
The red leather interior has the makers name of ‘John Morgan & Sons’ of Southampton and Cowes.
There is the remnant of a small hand-written label on the sweatband, which now only reads ‘F’.
~ Dimensions ~
The cap has an inner circumference of 56cm (22 inches).
It weighs 210g.
~ Condition ~
The cap is in very good condition. The cloth is clean and undamaged and the peak has very little wear.
There is some wear to the chinstrap, but only to the black paint and not the leather below.
The interior is in really good condition having not seen much wear by the looks of it.
