~ Framed Monochrome Watercolour Of Sailing Ships – Swains 1917 ~
A fine monochrome watercolour of two sailing ships dated 1917 and signed Swains.
The painting depicts two sailing ships on a rough sea. The ships are two-masted sailing ships, maybe brigs.
The painting is very dynamic, giving real sense of danger and is beautifully detailed.
The painting is signed in the bottom left hand corner. The signature is somewhat difficult to make out but appears to read ‘Swains’ possibly A. Swains and is dated for 1917.
The painting is mounted and comes in a glazed vintage frame circa 1960’s.
~ Dimensions ~
The painting measures 22cm (8 ¾ inches) by 36.5cm (14 ½ inches).
The frame measures 43cm (17 Inches) by 58cm (22 ¾ inches).
It weighs 2.03 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The painting has some foxing and a few marks but is in a generally good condition and presents well.
The frame is in a decent order but is a little worn. The back board is slightly warped from water damage. There is some flecks of dirt trapped between the mount and glass.
The picture would benefit from reframing.
