~ c1820 Georgian 9ct Rose Gold & Silver Diamond Brooch ~
A superb Georgian brooch, circa 1820 in 9ct rose gold and silver, set with 75 round diamonds.
The wreath shaped brooch is of spiral form.
The spiral is claw set with diamonds with clusters of three diamonds set between.
The front of the brooch is in sliver whilst the reverse and pin-clasp are of 9ct rose gold.
There are assay or makers marks to the clasp, though difficult to make out.
The brooch is fitted with a safety chain; this is a fairly modern addition.
~ Dimensions ~
The larger of the diamonds (within the clusters of three) measure between 0.05 carats (2mm diameter) to 0.25 carats (4mm diameter).
The smaller diamonds (situated on the spirals) measure between 0.01 – 0.02 carats (1mm – 1.5mm).
The brooch has a diameter of 40mm
It weighs 11.3g
~ Condition ~
There is a group of three diamonds missing*.
There are a couple of areas of repair* which has also resulted in the loss of a couple more diamonds though this loss/damage is only noticeable upon very close inspection.
The brooch is otherwise in great condition.
