*WW2, British, c.1944, Military GSTP Pocket Watch, Swiss Made by Damas, Béguelin & Co. SA, with Field Case*
A Damas, British military, pocket watch. An enamel dial with Arabic numerals, lumed at the quarters. The face is signed “Damas, Swiss Made”. A snap on back and bezel. The back has the letters “GS/TP” followed by “XX” and the army stores number “184600”, followed by the British Broad Arrow. (G.S.T.P. stands for General Services Timepiece/Temporary Pattern, which indicates that the watch was purchased by the British government for the armed forces 1939-1945. “XX” – XX is thought to mean superior quality but this is unconfirmed and it is more likely to mean decommissioned from army use.) 5cm diameter.
The Field Case has the number 24 on the back.
Damas is a tradename of Béguelin & Co. SA, in Tramelan (-Dessus), Switzerland. In 1903, Charles Edouard Béguelin founded the first clock and watch factory in Tramelan. In 1923, it bought out the “Tramelan Watch Co. The Damas mark with the underlining ‘M’ was registered by Beguelin & Co. SA/Tramelan Watch Co. of Tramelan, Switzerland, in 1944.
*Condition*
The face is in good condition with some wear to the painted lumed Arabic numerals. The stem works to pull to change the time and to wind the watch. The second hand works and the watch appears to keep time. The case has some scratches and marks commensurate with its age and service. We can open the back on request. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
