~ WW2 Medal Set – C.S. Read – SS Aguila Casualty ~
A set of three WW2 medals awarded, after death to Colin Stanley Read.
Colin Read was a convoy signalman who on the 19th August 1941 went down with the ‘SS Aguila’.
The SS Aguila was one of 23 merchant ships that formed Convoy OG 71, which left Liverpool on 13 August 1941 bound for Malta.
The convoy was famously attacked en route and between 18th -23rd August lost eight of her 23 merchant ships plus two of her escorts.
The Aquilla was torpedoed and at midnight on 19th August and was sunk.
On board Aguilla were 161 personel of whom only 16 survived.
This medal set cosists of The 1939 – 1945 Star, The Atlantic Star and The War Medal 1939–1945.
The medals are not named.
The medals come in their original box addressed to Colin Reads father, Mr Albert Read and with the official paper/ condolence paper handwritten with Colin Reads full name in blue ink.
Along with the set is included some paperwork relating to Colin Read and the SS Aguila and also a postcard of the ship.

The set weighs 115g.

The medals are in a really good condition.
The box is in decent condition with a few splits to the corners.
