*German, WW2, General Assault Badge “50” Engagements, Hollow Back*
Very desirable example of a 50 Engagement General Assault Badge that is an extremely scarce award, in excellent condition.
The badge, designed by Ernst Peekhaus of Berlin and established on June 1st, 1940, under the commission of Generaloberst von Brauchitsch, was bestowed upon individuals who engaged in a minimum of three combat actions on separate days and were ineligible for the Infantry or Armored Assault Badges. An upgraded version of the badge was introduced on June 22nd, 1943 (retroactively effective from June 1941), which included credits for the number of actions in which the soldier participated. This numerical designation (25 / 50 / 75) is displayed on a small plaque at the base of the wreath, known as the ‘Einsatzzahl’. Originally, the badge did not come boxed or cased, featuring different designs with a two-part construction secured by metal rivets.
