Blade engraved on both sides: Kings crown over fouled anchor and on the reverse Lion and Unicorn Crest under a starburst.
Proof plug with 6 point star
The first Royal Navy pattern sword, introduced in 1805, had an elegant but impractical design that was replaced by a solid-hilt version in 1827. In 1846, a standardized blade was introduced for all Royal Navy officers.
Royal Navy 1827 Pattern with 31.5″/80cm long single-edged blade with 2/3 fuller, burnished oak leaf decoration within rope border, crown over fouled anchor and Lion and Unicorn Crest in opposite side. Proof plug with 6 point star, back edge numbered 1704, solid gothic hilt with scrolled quillon and hinged locking plate folds on a brass hinge towards the blade, to engage with a pin on the scabbard top mount and allow the sword to rest easily against the wearer’s side when worn. Wire bound white shagreen grip with lion pommel and backstrap, gold bullion knot, brass mounted leather scabbard, kidskin sleeve and soft brown leather storage case.
Condition*
In excellent used condition. The sword sheaths and draw well. Some minor wear and tear to the scabbard. The kidskin sleeve has a hole to it and is dirty as one would expect, the leather case is in excellent condition. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
