The bayonet comes with composite bakelite grips, a beautifully crafted steel blade, hilt and scabbard. The metal grip is held together by 2 rivets, stud and groove at the base of the grip.
The scabbard of metal construction, painted black, with some dents. The bayonet comes with a fully functional spring catch release button for attachment to a Gew 98 rifle.
The ricasso is marked with Crown over W over 15 with one imperial mark and these indicate the manufacturing year 1915 and an original item.
The front of the ricasso bears the manufacturer`s mark SIMSON &C SUHL.
*Dimensions*
The blade has a length of 14 ½ inches (37 cm) and the sword in its scabbard has a total length of 20 ½ inches (52 cm).
It weighs 855 g.
*Condition*
The sword has developed some surface rust and the blade developed surface pitting but overall the item is in fair condition for its age.
