Description
She was built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast for Union-Castle Line and launched in 1948. She was the sister ship of Pretoria Castle and replaced the Warwick Castle that was lost in the Second World War. They were built to meet the terms of the mail contract signed in 1945. At the time they were the largest ships in the fleet and the Edinburgh Castle continued in loyal service until 1976 when she was retired by Union-Castle Line.
