A small pocket size volume measuring approximately 15cm x 10cm. 156 pages. Complete with the original frontispiece engraving and fold out street map.
The various sections cover the Island of Portsea, Southsea, Portsmouth, Portsea Landport & suburbs, Naval Arsenals, Environs of Southsea, Alverstoke (Gosport), Environs of Portsea, an appendix with lists of magistrates, churches and chapels, libraries, post office, stage coaches, coaches, packet vessels, watermen’s fares etc. There is an index at the end.
The frontispiece engraving is present and shows ‘The Departure of the Fleet from Spithead. 15th July 1845.It is a little discoloured, but is in good overall condition. The fold out map is in good condition.
Internally, the book is is very good condition. The mauve cloth binding looks to be a later rebinding, probably done in the first half of the 1900s. It has been very nicely done, and the binding is very sound.
