*George V 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword with leather scabbard*

A George V infantry officer's sword with copper wired shagreen grip and basket hilt, 32" blade with foliate decoration, the Royal coat of arms and crowned crest of George V (1919-36), etched with retailers and makers details to the ricasso, the hilt is fitted with its original leather sword acorn sheathed in metal and leather bound scabbard with 'Made in England' stamped under the belt strap.

The blade is stamped one side of the ricasso with a broad arrow, indicating War Department property, the maker’s mark ‘EFD’, indicating the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield, a crown inspection stamp with ‘E’ for Enfield, '30 the likely year of manufacture and an ‘X’ indicating that the blade passed a manufacturer’s bending test. It is stamped on the other side on top of the retailers mark "Teague Ltd, Jermyn Street" with a further crown inspection stamp for Enfield, the proof date ’34.

The 1897 pattern infantry officers’ sword is a straight-bladed, three-quarter basket-hilted sword that has been the regulation sword for officers of the line infantry of the British Army from 1897 to the present day.

*Condition*
Overall condition is good, some light rust and pitting. The scabbard is is good condition with some signs of wear and tear. Please see photos as part of the condition report.
