~ Circa 1800’s Oil On Board Portrait Of Lord Nelson After John Rising ~
A lovely oil portrait of Lord Nelson (Admiral Horatio Nelson 1758-1805) dating to the 1800’s after an original by the English painter John Rising.
The painting depicts Nelson in full dress uniform holding his sword out to the side.
The original (which hangs in the National Maritime Museum) is a full length portrait where as this is just a section of the original. It does not show the blade of the sword and is cut off mid leg.
The image has been painted on a wood board which has been mounted in a glazed frame.
We do not know who the artist is and the painting is not signed.
~ Dimensions ~
The painting measures 11.5cm (4 ½ inches) by 18cm (7 inches).
The frame measures 18.5cm (7 ¼ inches) by 25cm (9 ¾ inches).
It weighs 510g.
~ Condition ~
The frame has some age to it and the backing paper also has some age but there has been a recent addition in that the painted board is screw mounted to a modern piece of board.
The painting has lines of cracking due to the medium on which it’s been painted but this is to be expected when oil paint is applied to certain woods. The painting has not been retouched and is in a good condition.
The frame is in decent order.
