Description

*Very rare British, WW2, No 4 MK II* Bayonet Spike, by Baird Engineering Company, Northern Ireland and No 4. MK 1 Scabbard*

Third pattern, No 4 MKII* spike bayonet by Baird Engineering Company, Belfast, Northern
Ireland, who reportedly made between 75,000 (Skennerton) and 101,103 spike bayonets between 1942–44. The third pattern varied from the second in that the socket and blade were separate forgings. Baird Engineering were very unusual and pinned the blade to the socket, unlike the other manufacturers who welded the socket to the blade. The finish on the block and spike is also considered superior.

The No 4. MK1 scabbard is made by Mazak as indicated by the encircled M, the Zinc Alloy throat also bears a very clear war arrow. The No. 4 Mk. I has a tapered steel body with a ball finial. A drain hole in the finial, allows water to drain. A round frog stud is brazed to the body.

*Condition*
The bayonet and scabbard are in very good condition. The blueing has mostly be worn off and there is some yellow paint on the bayonet, but the blade is in good condition with no pitting. The scabbard fits securely. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
