Description

*WW2, Bren Gun MK 11 Magazine, with 7 Inert Rounds, dated 1942, Made by Lithgow*

Marked with the date 1942 "M'42, Broad Arrow, inspectors marks" and on the reverse "II". The Roman numeral II indicates that this is a Mk II magazine. It is marked on the side "Broad Arrow, MA", the MA signifies that it was made by Lithgow Manufacture. Lithgow made Brens from 1940 till 1945.

The Bren gun is easily identifiable by its distinctive curved magazines positioned on top of the receiver, accommodating up to thirty rounds of .303 ammunition. The rim of the .303 round determines the magazine's unique shape. Constructed from pressed steel, the magazine features a separately attached floor plate. Identified as a MK II magazine by two 'D' shaped dimples on the base plate, these prevent the plate from sliding off completely. Inside, a robust spring pushes up on the follower, ensuring smooth feeding of rounds into the gun's receiver. The feed lips secure the rounds until they're picked up and fed into the breach. Although designed to hold 30 rounds, for reliable feeding, it's typically loaded with only 28. Despite the challenge posed by the .303 round, the Bren magazine reliably delivers ammunition to the gun.
