Description

*Imperial German, M1879 Reichsrevolver, Dated 1887, Made by S&S VCS CGH SUHL, Matching Numbers, Deactivated*

Imperial German M1879 Reichsrevolver, 10.55 Cal. 7" Barrel Length (The subsequent Model 1883 known as the "Officer Model" featured a shorter 4 5/8-inch barrel). Serial Number "9046", marked on the receiver, the barrel, below the chamber and inside the chamber. The grip escutcheons are marked "46". "1887", the manufacturing date is marked on the receiver. Marked on the receiver with a circled barely discernable logo "S&S V.C.S C.G.H - SUHL" for Saur & Sohm, V.Chas. Schilling, C.G.Haenal, the consortium that made this revolver, who supplied arms to Prussia, Bavaria and Saxony. In 1811 Sauer became the first company ever to produce firearms for the German military. The chambers on the cylinder are marked 1-6 respectively. Stamped on the butt cap are the unit markings: "XV111. 36. 27A".

The Imperial German M1879 Reichsrevolver, or Reichs-Commissions-Revolver Modell 1879 also known as Trooper or Cavalry Model was a closed frame steel revolver. In 10.6mm scharfe Revolver-Patrone caliber, this revolver was the first standard, cartridge-firing handgun adopted by the German military. It was a service revolvers used by the German Army from 1879 to 1908, when it was superseded by the 9mm Luger although it saw service in World War I. It was a single action, six-shot revolver that had a separate rod for ejecting spent cartridges. Grooved cylinder, loading door on the right. Smooth walnut stock plates. It was notable for being one of the few military revolvers with a safety lever, which could be placed in the Safe position when the hammer was at half cock.

*Condition*
This historic revolver is in excellent condition. Fully deactivated. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
