*WW1, USA, Bolt Action Winchester P17 Rifle, Dated 1918, Deactivated*

Serial No: 491319
660mm/26" Barrel, .303 Cal
Marked " U.S., Model of 1917, Winchester, 491319"
Marked on top of barrel "W Flaming grenade 11-18"
Marked under barrel "Crown over BNP 30/06"

An iconic rifle that is harder and harder to find today, in excellent condition and with clear stamps, it is marked on the barrel ‘US Model of 1917 Winchester 491319’.
The side of the barrel also boasts the US flaming grenade mark, the top of the barrel dates this rifle as Nov 1918 production and has the correct US military flaming grenade ordnance stamps.

Upon the US entry into the war in 1917, they quickly recognized a shortage of rifles. To address this, Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone, already producing the Enfield P14 in .303 for the British, swiftly commenced the production of the M1917 rifle re-chambered in .3006 for American soldiers. The M1917 Enfield, dubbed the "American Enfield" and formally designated as the "United States Rifle, cal .30, Model of 1917," was developed and manufactured between 1917 and 1918. It served as the primary rifle for the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War I. The design heavily draws from the Mauser Gew98 action utilized by the Germans. Ironically, US arms companies obtained rights from Mauser to use the design patent, subsequently producing rifles used against German forces. Remarkably, the Danish Sirius Dog Sled Patrol in Greenland still utilizes the M1917, which proves dependable in Arctic conditions, as their service weapon.

*Condition*
This WW1 rifle is in excellent condition with the service and age related dings. The wood has an excellent patina. The rifle is fully deactivated the trigger and slide bolt do not move. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
