Description

*British, WW2, Army Kitchin "Jake" Machete and Fairbanks, Lavender & Sons Scabbard*

Blade Measures: 38.3cm, 7.2cm at its widest point, 51.3cm overall.

Marked on the blade: "Kitchin, Sheffield, England's "Jake" Brand, Made in England, Logo" and a War Arrow
Sheath marked "Fairbanks, Lavender & Sons, 1937, and on the reverse War Arrow 194 (last digit missing).

The machete itself has a long, curved blade with a sharp edge and a sturdy wooden handle. The blade is made of high-quality carbon steel, which is durable and easy to sharpen. The handle is designed to provide a comfortable and secure grip, even in wet or slippery conditions.

The hilt features narrow slab-sided two-piece gloss brown grips that gradually widen towards the pommel. These grips are affixed to the tang by five recessed copper rivets with washers, positioned in such a way that the two rivets closest to the pommel are vertically aligned. There is an aperture in the pommel for attaching a lanyard .

Encased in a soft grained tan leather scabbard, the mouthpiece is reinforced with buff-colored hide, securely riveted in place. The body of the scabbard is gathered and sewn down the center of the back in a raised seam, which extends around to the front tip. Attached to the rear of the throat is a leather belt loop, equipped with a hilt retention strap.

*Condition*
The machete is in good condition. The grip is chipped on both sides by the blade. The blade has surface pitting and a patina that exhibits its past working life. The leather scabbard is firm but is torn at the tip and the retention strap is broken. Please refer to the images as a part of our condition report.
