~ Harold Wyllie Signed Monochrome Etching Of Two Anchored Hulk Ships In Portsmouth Harbour ~

This is a monochrome etching by the noted maritime artist Harold Wyllie (1880-1975), son of William Wyllie.

It depicts two anchored steam ships, surrounded by sailing boats with passengers boarding.

The vessel on the left is a ship of the line from the Trafalgar period, possibly HMS Victory. To the right is the hulk of a decommissioned dreadnought battleship.

Both vessel are 'in ordinary' for accommodation.

Behind can be seen the railway bridge that was in use for Portsmouth Naval Base, called the South Railway Jetty, which was in use up until 1939.

The etching is signed in pencil in the lower left corner.

It is presented in a golden glazed frame with a light cream double mount.

~ Dimensions ~

The frame has a width of 19.5 inches (49.5 cm), a height of 16.5 inches (41.9 cm) & a depth of 1 inch (2.6 cm).
The etching has a width of 9.7 inches (24.6 cm) & a height of 5.7 inches (14.4 cm).
It weighs 1.73 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The etching is in excellent condition. The frame has some minor wear, though the glass remains in good order.
