Description

*Jimi Hendrix, 1967, Royal Albert Hall – Limited Edition Framed Photograph by Val Wilmer (218/500)*

A limited edition black-and-white photograph of Jimi Hendrix performing at the Royal Albert Hall, London, on 14 November 1967, captured by noted music photographer Val Wilmer. The image shows Hendrix on stage playing his white Fender Stratocaster, taken during one of his most celebrated and historically important UK performances.

This is a high-quality silver gelatin print, produced in a strictly limited edition of 500 copies. The print is hand-signed and numbered in pencil by Val Wilmer, and this example is numbered 218/500, with the signature and edition number clearly visible in the lower margin.

The photograph is professionally framed. The overall frame measures approximately 50 cm × 66.6 cm, with a visible image size of approximately 41.5 cm × 29 cm. The piece is ready for display.

History Note:
Jimi Hendrix’s performances at the Royal Albert Hall in November 1967 are widely regarded as among the defining concerts of his career. Coming shortly after the release of Axis: Bold as Love, the shows captured Hendrix at the height of his creative and technical powers and helped cement his reputation as one of the most innovative guitarists of the twentieth century. The Royal Albert Hall concerts have since become legendary, frequently referenced in documentaries, books, and recordings relating to Hendrix’s short but influential career.

The photograph was taken by Val Wilmer (born 1941), a highly respected British photographer and writer best known for her documentation of the British jazz and rock scenes from the 1950s through the 1970s. Wilmer’s work has been published internationally and exhibited by major institutions, and her photographs of musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and leading figures of the jazz movement are considered important visual records of the era. Her images of Hendrix, in particular, are among her most recognised and collected works, valued for their intimacy and documentary authenticity.

*Condition*
The photograph is in mint condition beneath the frame, with no visible damage or defects to the image. Some light reflections are visible in the photographs due to the image being taken through the glazed frame. The mount and frame present well, with only minimal handling wear consistent with careful display. The reverse retains its original backing board and hanging fittings. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
