History Note:
The General Service Medal (1918–1962) was awarded for service in a range of post-Second World War operations where no separate campaign medal existed. Individual campaigns were recognised by clasps attached to the ribbon. The “Cyprus” clasp was awarded to British and Commonwealth personnel who served in operations during the Cyprus Emergency (1 April 1955 – 18 April 1959), a conflict between British colonial authorities and the nationalist organisation EOKA, which sought union with Greece. During this period the island was a major British strategic base in the Eastern Mediterranean, with RAF personnel operating from installations such as RAF Akrotiri, RAF Nicosia, and RAF Episkopi.
*Condition*
