*British c.1890–1915 Officer’s Campaign “Securem” Tent Pole Strap / Hanging Rack with Brass Hooks*
A scarce and very practical late Victorian to Edwardian officer’s campaign accessory, this being a “Securem” type tent pole strap designed for use in military campaign tents, sporting tents, and travelling field accommodation. These ingenious fittings were strapped around the central tent pole, creating an instant hanging rack for uniforms, towels, equipment, belts, and personal effects, with the extended projecting hook commonly intended for a lantern or heavier item.
Constructed with a stout brown leather adjustable strap, fitted with multiple cast brass hooks arranged around the circumference, and retaining its original corrugated black rubber inner lining to improve grip and prevent slipping on the tent pole. The long projecting brass arm terminates in a curled hook, a characteristic feature of better quality officer’s private purchase examples. The buckle and stitched leatherwork remain original.
These were popular private purchase items sold through outfitters such as the Army & Navy Co-operative Society around the Boer War and into the First World War period, particularly with officers requiring compact but effective campaign furniture. They are now increasingly difficult to find complete, especially with the rubber lining still present.
A very attractive and unusual piece of British military campaign equipment with strong Boer War and WWI officer’s field kit appeal.

“Securem” tent pole straps were designed as portable field conveniences for officers on campaign, allowing the otherwise unused central tent pole to serve as a hanging point for clothing and equipment. Advertised for military, sporting, and bathing tents, they became particularly associated with British officer’s campaign equipment during the Boer War and First World War era, when compact and efficient private-purchase field kit was highly valued.
*Condition*
Original used condition with good untouched age patina to brass and leather. The leather strap remains complete with original buckle and rubber lining present. There is a visible split to the front leather section near the projecting hook mount, as shown, along with general age wear, surface rubbing, and expected service use marks throughout.
