Description

*British, Cold War - 1979 Dated, .50 Browning Machine Gun / 12.7×99mm NATO Cartridge – Kynoch K79 – Inert Display Round*

An original Cold War-era inert British .50 Browning Machine Gun (12.7×99mm NATO) complete display cartridge manufactured by Kynoch Ltd., Birmingham, dated 1979. This large-calibre military round retains its original copper-jacketed projectile seated within a brass cartridge case and displays the classic proportions of the famous .50 BMG cartridge, one of the longest-serving heavy machine gun rounds in military history.

The headstamp is marked K 79 50, identifying production by Kynoch, with 79 denoting the manufacture year and 50 confirming the .50 calibre designation. The cartridge also retains its military primer sealant around the primer pocket. During the Cold War period, ammunition of this type was produced for use in the Browning M2 heavy machine gun, a weapon employed by British and NATO forces in vehicle mounts, anti-aircraft roles and static defensive positions.

Approx. Measurements – Height: 13.9 cm. Base diameter: 1.9–2.0 cm.

History Note:
Designed by John Moses Browning during the final stages of the First World War, the .50 Browning cartridge became one of the most successful heavy machine gun rounds ever developed. Its long service life spans from the 1920s to the present day, seeing use in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War and modern conflicts. The M2 Browning remains in frontline use more than a century after its introduction.

*Condition*
Good display condition with age-related handling and storage wear. Brass case shows light surface marks and patina consistent with age. Projectile remains firmly seated. Primer retains coloured military sealant. Completely inert display item and free from all explosive or energetic materials. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
