~ Victorian 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays) Drum Horse Chest Plate ~
The leather chest plate would have been worn by horses during displays & parades.
At the centre where the straps part is a brass badge, made in the form of a belt reading “The Queens Bays”with the VR Royal cypher to the centre. The royal Queens crown sits on top.
The main leather strap is stamped to the reverse ‘1 DH BAND HQ SQN’.
~ The 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays) ~
The 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays) was a cavalry regiment in the British Army, first raised in 1685 by King James II. It saw service for three centuries, before being amalgamated into the 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards in 1959.
~ Dimensions ~
The belt has a length of 51 inches (129cm). The brass badge itself is 4 inches (10cm) tall by 2.25 inches (5.5cm) wide. It weighs 500 g.
~ Condition ~
There are no rips to the leather. It remains in excellent order.
