Description
This very atmospheric oil on canvas depicts the warships on the dark sea.
The frame is 31 inches (79cm) wide by 23 inches (58.5cm) tall.
Olsen’s seascapes is known for their great details and naturalistic style. Olsen never overworked his oils and concentrated on especially on capturing the true nature and detail of the ships he portrait rather than romanticize them. Olsen also worked as a porcelain artist at Bing & Grondal where he did several ship portraits on large vases. Olsen traveled with the Danish navy a great deal and thus had the opportunity to portray many foreign seascapes and ships. Olsen also had the great honor to join the Danish king and Queen on their journeys to Greenland in 1921 and to Island in 1926. Olsen has been exhibited numerous times in Denmark and has been exhibited at the Danish National exhibition at Brooklyn Museum of art.
